To answer your exact question though, the button assignment is respected in every program but Visual Studio, in the IDE, as well as in the Document Explorer. Furthermore, this is a problem that I had before (on a different computer), and found a fix somewhere, but I cannot seem to locate that again. Actually, I have a Logitech mouse (not the MX518) so maybe I'll try installing this SetPoint software and see if I have problems.
Still it is odd that all functionality except double click in VS would work. I'm not sure if SetPoint ships with its own set of files or not. Some of the more common threads seems to be a conflict with the VC RTL. The causes vary but here are some links to get you started: I have found numerous references to SetPoint causing compatibility issues with other software. I suspect the problem is with the SetPoint software and VS itself.

There is no benefit and Windows supports all the core functionality anyway. It is highly unlikely that VS would do any sort of custom mouse management. Select 'Continue' on the confirmation window. If anyone is having this problem, here is the set of instructions for accomplishing this, which I have copied from a post in the logitech site itself:ġ. You have to quit that, and configure the SetPoint application itself to "run as administrator". So invoking SetPoint from the system tray doesn't do the job, since the tray icon is not configurable to run as administrator. It turns out that SetPoint needs to be configured by using the SetPoint software "as an administrator", in order for VS to "use" those settings.
